Nisrin Kothambawala has always been fascinated by gardens. As a child she would wander into gardens and green vistas, admiring the aesthetic beauty offered by a panoply of shrubs, plants, flowers and trees. These visits instilled in her an appreciation for organised and well-maintained gardens.
This allure gradually bloomed into a passion and eventually translated into a pursuit in the field of landscaping. After obtaining a qualification in horticulture and a diploma in landscape architecture from Pune University, Nisrin began working for Ravi & Varsha Gavandi in 2001, a renowned landscape architecture firm based in Pune. As a landscape architect, she achieved success in various projects across India.
The skills she developed while working in India matured when in 2007, she migrated to Bahrain with her husband and continued her journey as a landscape architect. Her promising talent won quick appreciation as she landed a job at the landscape department of a reputable company where she played an instrumental role in setting up their business and successfully secured new projects for them across the Kingdom.
After a successful two-year stint, Nisrin realised it was time she pursued her dream of establishing her own landscaping company. She thus sought the blessings of His Holiness Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, and founded ‘Raj Landscaping’ in partnership with her husband. Her landscape design firm soon expanded and began providing services such as installation and maintenance of gardens.
Nisrin acknowledges the value of being creative and strives to bring out the best in her team. She is currently heading a team of creatives in different areas of expertise from landscape architects, horticulturists, supervisors, technicians to gardeners. Her unique design philosophy and distinctive approach, coupled with an undying passion for learning new things, have propelled her company towards becoming an industry leader. Unsurprisingly, they are sought after for projects with vertical landscaping, biophilic designs, rooftop gardens, theme gardens, among other things across the Middle East region.
Apart from her business, she participates in a number of social activities. Currently, Nisrin is an executive board member for Bahrain Garden Club, a prestigious club under the patronage of His Majesty, The King of Bahrain. She is involved in various educational programs that stimulate knowledge and love for gardening throughout the Kingdom. She has carved a distinctive identity for herself in the community.
Nisrin believes that women have great aesthetic and artistic sagacity and add great value to any entity. The determination and perseverance with which she has continually nurtured her creativity are a guide to Nisrin herself and an inspiration to those around her.
