MSB School in Dubai host Zero Food Waste Presentation on World Food Day

This story was reported by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations on their website on 20th October 2022.

In the week of World Food Day, the senior students of MSB School in Dubai hosted a Dubai Municipality representative from the UAE Food Bank, a global initiative close to the heart of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum.

During his presentation, Mr Sajiv Raghavan, who is a key officer in executing the goals across the city, emphasized the tremendous job the UAE Food Bank staff does all year long. Food-saving tips, refrigerator hygiene, and personal consciousness regarding food were discussed with students in order to inculcate a lifestyle that encourages frugality in food purchases.

A touching component of the presentation was discovering that in addition to managing the community refrigerators, UAE Food Bank also distributes meat and other food to individuals in need during special occasions like Eid al Adha, as well as natural disasters like the recent floods in Pakistan.

As the session came to a close, an invitation was extended to the Dawoodi Bohra community and students to participate with the UAE Food Bank in order to come forward with their suggestions regarding eradicating food waste and hunger with prudent efforts for the future.

Food wastage and food distribution are very important causes that require global efforts to prevent hunger. As part of its global efforts to encourage food distribution and build awareness, the Dawoodi Bohra community runs drives and campaigns around the world to prevent food waste. A number of community fridges have been set up across the city under the Project Rise initiative with the inspiration and support of the UAE food bank.
