History

  • Burhanuddin Fakhri from the Dawoodi Bohras of Ajman
The Dawoodi Bohra community established its roots in Ajman in 1972, during a time of economic growth and opportunity in the United Arab Emirates. Early members brought with them a strong sense of enterprise and optimism. In 1975, just three years after their arrival, community members opened Ajman’s first typing center—marking the beginning of their contributions to local development.
What began with a handful of families gradually expanded in both size and scope. Through ventures in sheet metal fabrication, construction tools manufacturing, printing, and related industries, community members adapted to Ajman’s evolving economic landscape. Today, the Dawoodi Bohras continue to participate in the city’s broader story of growth and progress, guided by values of service, discipline, and integrity.

Masjid

The Hakimi Masjid, inaugurated on 26 December 2006 by the late Sultan al-Bohra His Holiness Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, stands at the heart of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Ajman and is a centre for prayer, gathering, and social initiatives.

Across from the masjid lies Hatemi Apartments, a residential complex established in 2021 which currently houses 55 families.

Community

Amidst the nearly 600 community members are business owners, professionals, and home-based entrepreneurs. From IT and law to healthcare and finance, members contribute meaningfully across various sectors.

Women-led and home-based ventures are one of the hallmarks of the Ajman Dawoodi Bohra community.

Engagements

Inspired by the guidance of Sultan al-Bohra Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, community members remain actively engaged in social and environmental initiatives. Cleanup campaigns, blood donation drives, medical check-ups, and relief efforts during the pandemic have been central to the community’s outreach.
A standout sustainability initiative involves repurposing discarded date seeds after iftar gatherings into a caffeine-free coffee substitute. Led by youth volunteers, this eco-friendly project during Ramadan embodies both environmental stewardship and community creativity.
The community has also worked in collaboration with the Indian Embassy during UAE floods reflecting their commitment to the values of compassion and civic responsibility.
