History

The Dawoodi Bohra community in Oman traces its roots to the late 1960s, when a small group of families settled in Muscat. Drawn by the region’s growing economy and social stability, these early members arrived in 1967 and gradually established themselves in trade, services, and other professional fields. Like many similar migrations across the Gulf during that period, the path to stability was shaped by hard work and a strong sense of communal support.
Over the decades, the community grew from humble numbers to nearly 350 families today comprising approximately 1,000 individuals, who call Oman home. While still modest in numbers, the community is deeply attached to its Omani heritage and continues to engage in various aspects of the country’s economic, social, and cultural life.
Sultan al Bohra’s 2017 visit further encouraged this spirit of service. During his time in Oman, he counseled community members to be faithful citizens and residents that search for avenues to contribute to the country’s development. The community continues to heed his words, seeking opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the Sultanate’s evolving landscape.

Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, the country continues to invest in infrastructure, education, and civic well-being—priorities that closely align with the values of the Dawoodi Bohra community.
The community shares this national vision, particularly in its emphasis on high-quality education, social responsibility, and environmental awareness. Families across Oman have worked to ensure that younger generations not only pursue higher education but also participate actively in the social and professional fabric of the country.
