We are the Dawoodi Bohra community of Kuwait

The State of Kuwait has welcomed the Dawoodi Bohras since the early 1950s, providing them with incentives such as tax exemptions and a host of employment opportunities.

The first Bohras to arrive in Kuwait travelled on cargo ships and endured long arduous journeys. Initially, these early settlers took up odd jobs to make ends meet. Most of them had left their families in search of better prospects and took up residence in shared accommodations with other migrant workers.

Gradually, as a result of hard work, determination and entrepreneurial drive the Dawoodi Bohras  established their own businesses and trade-houses. They also pursued qualification in various fields and excelled in their chosen professions. The number of Dawoodi Bohras in Kuwait increased manifold as the years progressed. They initially congregated in community centres in the Salmiya area but are now spread out across the country. Today, a total of 7 community centres cater to a population of 26,000 members.  The 52nd Sultan Al Bohra, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin visited Kuwait for the first time in the year 1968 and prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the community, the leadership and the residents. His successor, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, visited Kuwait in 2018 and during his meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, prayed for continued progress and peace in the country.
