We are the Dawoodi Bohra community of Sharjah
Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community first migrated to Sharjah in the 1960s as traders in hardware and construction material. Today, Sharjah is home to over 4,000 Dawoodi Bohras who are engaged in business, industry and professions including medicine, law, architecture, engineering and IT.
The masjid where community members congregate for prayers is located in Al Manakh, in the heart of Sharjah and was inaugurated by His Holiness, the late Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, the 52nd Sultan al Bohra, in 2003. The masjid’s facade and arcades are exact replicas of al-Jami al-Anwar and al-Jami al-Aqmar in Cairo, which were originally built over 900 years ago.
In February 2020, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin – the 53rd Sultan al Bohra, inaugurated the newly extended Burhani Masjid and its complexes. During his inaugural sermon, he expressed his gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and thanked the Government of Sharjah for their constant support in the development of the masjid. His Holiness counseled the members of the community to remain loyal to the city and the country.
